Take Action

There are many ways to contribute to a more climate-resilient, equitable future.

Things you can do at home:

  • Take public transit and walk/bike when possible

  • Eat less meat and more locally-grown (or homegrown) produce

  • Produce less food and packaging waste through conscious consumption and composting of food scraps

  • Explore options for installing solar power

  • Switch to energy-efficient and water-saving appliances/fixtures

  • Upgrade your home’s insulation

  • Replace hardscape and lawn with healthy soil, low-water native plant landscapes, and permeable paving where needed (or work with your landscaper to do so)

  • Support soil health by composting, mulching, leaving the leaves, and letting soil breathe

  • Avoid gas-powered machines like lawn mowers and leaf blowers for landscape maintenance

  • Stop using pesticides and chemical fertilizers on your landscape

  • Harvest rainwater from your roof using a rain tank or cistern

  • Use greywater to irrigate your trees and landscape

  • Fly less often

  • Have conversations about climate change with your family, friends, and neighbors

Ways to expand your impact:

  • Contact your elected representatives. Urge them to take a proactive, watershed approach to planning, support regenerative nature-based solutions to climate challenges, and extend the Water LA program to communities throughout LA County.

  • Vote only for candidates who support a Green New Deal, have taken the pledge not to accept money from the fossil fuel industry, and who have a solid climate action plan.

  • Hold local officials accountable for community safety by demanding updated flood, fire, and sea-level rise risk maps.

  • Attend a hands-on Water LA workshop and share what you learn with friends, family, and neighbors.

  • Make a tax-deductible donation to help us continue our efforts to make LA a safer, healthier, and more resilient place for all of us to live and work.

  • Tell people about the crucial work we do. After all, these are issues that affect everyone!
