Taylor Yard Interpretive Projects

With a grant from the Taylor Family and the California State Parks Foundation, The River Project has been asked to create the Interpretive Projects for the State Park at Taylor Yard. We are working with local elementary school students in a series of educational workshops. They are learning about the natural, cultural and historic resources of the area and of the river’s importance to the founding of Los Angeles.

Students from Aragon Avenue Elementary School are creating concepts for what the project should look like and what information it will impart. They are working with local artist Suzanne Siegel to create the piece based on their design. It will be permanently located at the State Park.

We'll continue to work with CA State Parks create a series of interpretive projects throughout the Taylor Yard site over the coming years. The Metropolitan Water District has given us a grant to support development of "The River is the Reason" - a K-8 curriculum focusing on water resources and sustainability that will facilitate future student created interpretive projects at the site.
