Hansen Spreading Grounds
The
156 acre spreading grounds were developed in the early 1940s to accept
water from the lower Tujunga (below Hansen Dam) to provide a place for
surface water to recharge ground water and aquifers. The capacity of the
spreading grounds at any one time is 279 acre-feet and the percolation
rate is 150 cfs (facility information from LA
Department of Public Works).
In the winter and spring of 2004-05, the Hansen spreading grounds allowed
29,180 acre-feet of water to percolate
into the ground-water (LADPW
water conservation report).
