Catchbasin
Marker Pilot Project
In an effort to help reduce trash in the river, we are working with
the City of Los Angeles' Bureau of Sanitation on a pilot project to design
and install catchbasin markers that say "Don't Dump - Drains to Los
Angeles River". This compliments Heal the Bay's successful "Don't
Dump - Drain to Ocean" campaign and points out the fact that not
only is the ocean polluted by illegal dumping, but the LA River and adjacent
communities are adversely affected as well.

Catchbasin marker volunteers
A pilot project in the Studio City area was implemented in Spring 2004.
Volunteers spent a sunny Saturday morning in April fanning out to affix
90 catchbasin on curbs throughout Studio City. Over 25 volunteers participated.
The city will survey local residents for reactions to the markers and
is monitoring catchbasins to determine if there is a reduction in the
amount of trash collected.
